Shoes, Shoes, Shoes

I found my wedding shoes sometime before Christmas but I just haven't posted about them yet. They could, quite possibly, be the most perfect shoes ever! They are even in my colors. The bestest best part about these shoes? The PRICE!!!!

Before I divulge that, I'll share some pictures. Aren't they cute??

Now, just so you know, wearing shoes like these (even for a short ceremony) ain't gonna be easy, honey. I almost never wear heels, and if I do they are never this high. So what am I wearing right now as I sit at my desk? These shoes. My fiance is in the tub and, every night, I take that time to break in and practice walking around in these babies.

Okay, so how much did the perfect pair of shoes set me back??? Drum roll, please.

$2.98

Oh, don't worry I didn't leave out any numbers! Two dollars and ninety eight cents. (!!!!!)They were on clearance and Charlotte Russe (an adorable store BTW). I even told the sales lady that I loved her. Don't they just make you smile? Ahhh... :D

Dallas Bridal Show

Saturday was the Dallas Bridal Show. It was a HUGE event with over 300 vendors (can you hear my feet screaming??). I went with my best friend Sarah (who's engaged), her mom, and her aunt. We had a really great time!!! Lots of information, ideas, and cake. I mean, LOTS of cake. Hah.

The craziest thing I saw was the "Million Dollar Wedding Cake". (The link is a short video). This cake was outrageous (and a little silly in my opinion). All of the 'decor' is diamonds. But if you have the money, why the hell not right? *Insert eye roll here*.
iPhone picture - obviously not best quality! :)
So now I have a few ideas floating around in my head now. What do you think of boudoir photography? I think that, if done TASTEFULLY, they can be a gorgeous display of femininity. I am seriously considering investing in these. Opinions?

The Church has been Booked

It feels really great to say that something has been made official. I booked the church this morning. We are getting married August 14, 2010. Ahh!!! :D

I wanted to share a little bit of what the church looks like and it's history. The Historic Texana Church was built in 1859. It is an adorable one room church with dark wood pews and even a white picket fence outside (!!!). It's located in a park about 15 minutes away from my hometown. This park is full of gorgeous trees and is right next to a lake. Here's a picture of our cute little chapel!!!

It's perfect for our small wedding and gives the simplicity that we both want.

One of the best things about this church??? It costs only $150.00 (+ $50.00 deposit) for an entire day.

Our reception venue, called the Marina Building, is a short walk away. Here, we'll even have access to the deck that goes out onto the lake. Since we're having an evening wedding, we're hoping to decorate the deck with tiny, white lights and have a jazz combo play. I'll get some pictures of this soon!

A Bump on the Road to Wedded Bliss

I've been reading wedding blogs religiously for quite a few months now. That may not be a long time but I have done a lot of reading and not once have I read about those dreaded fights with your fiance. Well, we had one today. It was over something silly, and most of what we were mad about had nothing to do with the wedding.

Without going into the gory details, I’ll give you the breakdown.

The date we wanted was not available at our venue. Josh came in the door right as I was talking to my mom about it. He had a really long day and I bombarded him with questions and decisions that needed to be made. Over the next hour, the argument weaved in and out of regular conversation until we finally ended up on the bed to talk only about the problem. I wanted to pick a date right then and book the church ASAP and he wanted to “sleep on it”. At this point I was so worried that everything was going to be booked in the next five minutes. It escalated and I walked out of the room.

Later, I took him to his night class and when he got home the flood gates opened. We sat for over an hour in the living room talking about what was really bothering us. My argument was that it didn’t feel like he cared about the wedding and wanted to put things off while I worked hard to plan. He felt I was being pushy and insensitive about the new things he was adjusting too (new job, new semester, busy schedule… for the both of us, really). And we were both right. We apologized and meant it. (This is key. Mean it!!!)

The rest of this evening has been amazing. It was full of intimacy and love and fun and we ended up picking a date in about 30 seconds.

I guess the most important thing to know about arguments caused by wedding frenzy is to remember why you’re getting married. You LOVE this person. They make you a better everything. Person, sister, daughter, lover, student, employee, you name it. Next on the list of vital information is to actually EXPLAIN what’s wrong. I’m the worst with this. I can count the number of times I’ve said “I’m fine” with tears streaming down my face. Ladies, he can’t fix anything if you don’t tell him what’s wrong. So explain it. Don’t yell it and lecture it. Explain it.

Best of luck on your trip to wedded bliss!!!

Couch 2 5K

Today I started the Couch to 5K program. I bought the iPhone app which times the workouts for you and contains the entire 9 week program.

My favorite thing about the app is that it tells you (in your headphones) when you're half way done, when to start running, and when to walk. It's really great.

Today's workout (day one) looked like this:

"Brisk 5 minute warm up walk. Then alternate 60 seconds of jogging and 90 seconds of walking for a total of 20 minutes. Five minute cool down walk."

A total of 31 minutes. Whew. It was quite the work out but I feel really great. Now it's off to bed by 11:00 and another productive day tomorrow. I'll try to update this from month to month with my progress. Good night!

Update on Life

Hello!

Hope you all are enjoying the new year. Are your resolutions still going strong? I just thought I'd write a little about how things are going in my corner of the web.

I'm so glad for the new year! My boyfriend and I just bought a few new large pieces of furniture for our apartment and are in the process of a complete overhaul. I am now writing from my brand new desk! Maybe, if I'm feeling super ambitious, I'll share some before and after pictures. For the past couple of days I have been in 'organization mode' and I feel so accomplished. Everything from paperwork to socks and undies are now being put into a new home. Now all I have to do is cross my fingers and hope that it stays this way for more than one week!

I also have some clarifying to do for this blog. "No", I am not officially engaged yet. "Yes", I am getting married this August. Confused? Let me explain. My boyfriend and I have decided to get married. We have announced it to our parents, started planning, and are in the process of booking a church. So why no ring? Weeeellllll.... There was one... that was supposed to be here before Christmas. It was out of stock but the company didn't notify him until three weeks after he placed the order. Ridiculous? YES!!! You should have seen how upset he was. He kept saying it was the 'perfect ring' and now he has to find something else. Sad times. So that's that.

In other news, my best friend is now engaged. Sarah and I started out knowing each other through work and have now become super close. Her fiance proposed a few days after Christmas and she called me in a frenzy! I'm one of her bridesmaids and I am so looking forward to helping out with her wedding. I've asked her permission to feature some of the details of her wedding here and she has graciously agreed. So a new segment will soon be debuted entitled "My Best Friend's Wedding". Original huh? Eh, what can you do?

Hope everyone is ready to enjoy their weekend!!
