October Favorites

October is coming to a close and I thought I would try out another new thing. Favorites posts! Just a little compilation of the things I'm loving at the moment. Enjoy

Black leggings: So I'm a little late on the legging trend, but I picked some up at Target earlier this month and I am loving them! They are crazy comfy but dressier than sweatpants. My favorite method is wearing one of my cute mini dresses with them.

Target tank tops: Hallelujah! I've finally found a tank top that doesn't stretch out immediately! Enough said.

Hocus Pocus: My favorite Halloween movie of all time! It is the cutest movie. It seems that there was this huge transition in TV and this happened before reality television dominated every channel. If you haven't seen it, rent it! It'll will make you happy.

University of Cookie: I have fallen in love with cute cookies and, therefore, making cute cookies. I just made some today for our Halloween party and while they are a little messy, they look pretty good for a first timer. The best thing about U of C is that Ms. Bridget provides video tutorials. You can see how they are making the icing and cookie dough and how they do all the awesome things you can do to a cookie. Even if you're not a baker, check out the site just to get your daily dose of cute.

What were your "can't live without items of the month?"

Statement Art on a Budget

Art on a newlywed/college kid budget is a little hard to come by, but there are absolutely ways to have statement art in your home for less. Prints! Take a peak at the statement art I put up in our bedroom.

Total, this project cost about $35.00. This posters and small prints were half off, the small frames were $3.00 each at Wal-Mart, and (the mega-daddy sale item!) the large frame was $10.00! I spray painted them a satin gold, and that was it!

So, while one day we'll be able to have authentic art in our bedroom, I have no problems with this! I'm actually quite fond of our little set up!

Halloween Decorating

Finally! Fall has... well.. fallen and despite the still-warm temperatures down in Texas I have embraced the season. Halloween is around the corner and Josh and I are preparing for a fun holiday. Take a peek at our "spooked-out" mantel.

These books don't necessarily have spooky titles but they are pretty beat up, which makes them perfect for the display. My poor Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire book has so much damage (from being read hundreds of times and being taken everywhere with "middle-school" me) that it almost looks cursed.

The center art piece is actual Josh's wedding gift to me. He commissioned his sister, Rachel, to create this rendition of us getting married. It is one of a kind and I couldn't love it more. Isn't it awesome?

The underlying theme for this Halloween is "birds". Silhouettes of crows and owls, along with vintage birdhouses provide a creepy vibe without being overly "halloweeny". The bird house, "boo" candle holder, and owl silhouette were from Hobby Lobby (50% off). The "October" picture is actually from a "Real Simple" magazine. And then of course, we have drippy candles and mini pumpkins. I think it turned out pretty darn well. Almost ready for our Halloween party!

Book of the Month? + My First Giveaway (CLOSED)

I really love to read. But more than I love to read, I love to buy books. And I don't go by that saying "don't judge a book by it's cover". I judge. I love colorful covers and clever titles. Admit it, it matters. So, how about starting a book of the month gig? It could be cool. If you have the chance, read the book suggested and let me know what you think. :D

A book that I've loved for a long time but recently picked back up is I Like You: Hospitality Under the Influence by Amy Sedaris. The book is advertised as her take on hospitality and party throwing, but you get so much more than that. Amy Sedaris is a hilarious writer who's words may be considered offensive in a different context, but in this book?? You can't help but laugh out loud. Because with your need for new recipes to prepare for the "old people" who may be visiting, chances are (in Amy's world) that you'll also need some advice on personal hygiene, rabbit care and, of course, what not to say to someone who is mourning over a lost loved one (such as, "You'll meet someone new, speaking of which, I know this guy who works at the Wax and Wicker. He's got a green card!!"). But don't worry, all of the recipes in the book are real, not jokes. So have no fear when trying out the "I Remember the War Cube Steak" or "Vulgar BBQ Sauce".

And for the first time, I'll be doing a giveaway of this book!!! Absolutely free! (Imagine that). Soooo, all you have to do to be entered is be a follower to this blog, "Like" Are We Wed Yet? on Facebook, and leave a comment saying you'd like to be entered. At the end, I'll pick a random commenter to win and I will ship you your prize. How easy can it be?

The winner will be announced on October 15, 2010. Good luck!!!

Welcome to October.

Where did September go? I cannot believe that October is here. Upon waking up this morning, the weather is gorgeous, the morning DJ's are talking about all of the scary movies coming out this month, and I already set out our cute little ceramic pumpkin on our bar. It's officially my favorite season! And to kick it off, how about some costume contenders for this year's festivities?

Pin-Up Sailor Girl

OR

Greek Goddess

Those are the top two choices now. I already have the blue dress and I have the material to make a Greek costume. So, it's just up to which one I lean towards more. I just don't know!!!

Thoughts? What are you planning to be for Halloween??
